The OMEGA OMB-PER488/AT converts IBM PC/XT/AT and compatible computers into high-performance IEEE-488.2 compliant controllers. The board reads data at up to the 1 Mbyte/sec maximum specified by the IEEE-488 bus. This high-speed throughput is achieved with special circuitry that combines two 8-bit IEEE data bytes into a single 16-bit word for DMA transfer on the 16-bit AT bus. The half-size board may be used in an 8-bit slot of an IBM PC type computer or 16-bit slot of an IBM AT type computer, with maximum data rates achieved in the AT computer. IEEE 488.2 defines common data codes, formats, message protocols and commands to simplify the integration of system software. The OMB-PER488/AT offers complete IEEE 488.2 compliance while retaining IEEE 488.1 compatibility. Thus the OMB-PER488/AT is compatible with thousands of existing IEEE-488 instruments and fully supports the growing number IEEE 488.2 instruments being introduced. Included with the OMB-PER488/AT is a powerful easy-to-use device driver which greatly facilitates programming. The driver is language independent and may be used with most common DOS and Windows languages.
